[STREET SNAP] What The Hatmaker Wore To The Ball
I didn't do as much walking around and taking pictures at Anime Overload 5 as I would have liked. However, I wasn't going to pass up the burst of style and color that was our neighboring booth. Her daily fashion show really brightened up the weekend.

[DAILY OUTFIT + STREET STYLE] The Moon Was Full And The Color Of Blood The Night The Pirates Came To The Vampire Club

Since we missed him last time he came to Dallas, Alex and I made a point to attend Voltaire's Pirate Party earlier this month at The Church. Surprisingly enough I don't have anything "Pirate Chic" in my closet but I managed to pull this outfit together last minute. I hate attending a good party under-dressed.

[STREET SNAP] Girls On Two Seperate Ends of the (DFW) World
I stepped out of the house this weekend for a little fun. Friday, I went to UNT's presentation of the Vagina Monologues, which is becoming tradition with my friends. It's an emotional rollercoaster but incredibly empowering. My favorite is still My Short Skirt, which inspired a blog last year. This year they added Eve Ensler's open letter to Todd Akin about his comment, "If it’s legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down..."
On our way up to the Student Union's Lyceum, I spotted the co-ed on the left who seemed surprised that I asked for her picture. I love the tights and high-heel sandals look. On Saturday, I stopped by Charming Charlies in Arlington to check out the 50% Off Clearance Items thing I received in my inbox. It was pretty picked over but I liked the store associate's dress and boot combo on the right.

[STREET SNAP] Shades of Black ~ Birthday Night at The Chuch
I turned 27 on the 21st and spent Sunday evening with Alex and our friend Allison with a plethora of interesting people at The Church. It was my first night wearing my new Hell Bunny Sugar Skull dress that Alex's mom got me for Christmas. The oversized sweater my sister got me for my birthday came off as the night progressed. A big thanks to these wonderful people who posed that night in their delightful style.

[STREET SNAP] Geeks Converge at the Bookstore and This Guy Knows How to Accessorize
Going out and partying on the weekend is so faux pas, right? Especially when you've fallen in love with a bookworm. Financial strains recently led us to spend Saturday night at Barnes & Nobles. I'm not really complaining - there are nights when I'd rather read manga and sip coffee than push past hot bodies and drink overpriced Vodka (I actually think that's this Friday).
If we had gone out dancing, I would have never seen Aaron, a local leather artisan, looking very much like a modern rogue. His impressive scale-mail (forearm) caught both mine and Alex's attention immediately. There was a pause before one of us asked, "Is he going to Scarborough Faire?"

Seeing him, however, made me realize how little men accessorize in contrast with geek men. Geeky guys are not afraid to enhance their style while representing the things they love. How else could those printed sweatbands become so popular?
If you would like to see more of Aaron's creations, you can check out his Scales of the Serpent Blog.

I Fell Down a Rabbit Hole And Stumbled Into Some Nipple Tassels
There was a little less skin that the first fairy tale-themed show we attended in March. The aerial acrobatics and sparkly costumes, however, totally made up for that. While I'm normally partial to the Mad Hatter, I liked Alice's two-piece the best. While the Mad Hatter was hot and dark, her costume was too put-together, she seemed to lack the craziness that's always associated with the character.

It was a good show nonetheless. There were a lot of oh's and ah's as Alice and the Caterpilar locked their bodies and spun around an elevated swing. Tweedle-Dee and Tweedle-dum had people rolling in their seats with their beach ball butts. But, of course, most people where there to see the themed clothing come off.

I couldn't take any pictures of the show (the pics above come via Mike Brooks at the Dallas Observer) but I did catch some of the girls from Viva Burlesque dressed up for the show. And I really enjoy how people dress up for these shows the way people use to dress up to go to the theater. Check out the pics below.

[STREET SNAP] Emilie Autumn's Concert Brought Out The Local Plague Rats
Alex introduced me to Emilie Autumn when we started dating and, I'll admit, I wasn't an instant fan but she grew on me. I've come to love her deep raspiness and the disjointed yet harmonious melodies but, more than anything, her lyrics. Sometimes ironic, sometimes dark, and mainly angry, her words are incredibly feminist and raw - but more on that on my next blog, with video!
For now enjoy a few Plague Rat (her fans) pics, taken as we waited outside. Concert lines never fail to turn up great street style.

She Was Looking Elegant On A Casual Day

I saw Kyla the Burlesque Dancer when I went to deliver business cards at ONLi Boutique. She seemed almost too elegant to be walking around the Bishop Arts District at 2pm, and I was really digging the hat.
Turns out she was passing out flyers to a local art show that's she's performing in tomorrow. I don't quite know if my evening is free but, if it is, I'm so there.

The art gallery has been up and running in my old neighborhood yet I still haven't been. I feel like I need to attend as many cultural events in said old neighborhood as it is trying to shake its horrible reputation (think drive-bys and drug dealers). Indie fashion boutiques, art galleries, soda shops, burlesque shows and awesome coffee - I think it's come a long way since I was a kid.

[STREET SNAP] Cute Style May Protect You From Bad Shark Movies
I'm going to start doing my TOP 10 TUESDAY post every other Tuesday so they seem more spaced out and I have to time to to assemble a good, well-thought-out list. So today I bring you a quick street style snap I took Friday night at the discount theater in Plano, TX.
For $4, Alex and I saw Shark Night not in 3D. Confession: we enjoy bad, indie B-movies. What made this a "bad" movie? Apart from the overly aggressive sharks, the antagonists were motivated by the high ratings on Shark Week. It was cheesy suspense and worth it (LOL).

I saw these two ladies walking in right before us but forgot to ask what they were watching. I didn't see them in our theater so I doubt sharks were part of their night. I really liked all the layers and the oversized knit sweaters.

[STREET SNAP] Ride Your Wild Side
I attended a small, intimate fashion show that was promoting AIDS awareness this past Saturday. I saw this young lady and instantly knew I had to get a picture of her cheetah print shirt. The close up was a bit out of focus but the fringe and studded patterns really convey "Cowgirl Chic". I forgot to ask her where she got that furry handbag... Grrr ;)
