[DAILY OUTFIT] Who Needs a Camera for Outfit Photos? 2 Android Apps to Simplify Your Life

Can you see all the hail on the ground behind me? I took these pictures mid-storm before the huge golf ball chunks fell. Texas has crazy weather sometimes but the hot, mugginess is pretty much consistent. That's why I'm spending most of my days in these bedazzled flip-flops Alex's mom gave me. This means I'm going to have to pay way more attention to my toenails, though.

Since my new Galaxy S2 phone takes 8MP photos, I'm going to start using it for my outfit shoots and give my point-and-shoot to my mom. I might regret this later at events but who knows - the phone might do good indoors as well. I also found a really awesome FREE Android app that puts pictures together: PicsArt. In conjunction with the Pixlr-o-matic app, I don't think my outfit pictures will ever see a computer again (thought my phone's battery will probably drain faster).

[TOP 10 TUESDAY] Keep Your iPhone Feeling Stylish (Wallpaper Edition)

I am addicted to customizing my phone. I remember when phones first had faceplates with cool designs, I spent lunch money on one with flames. Then I learned how to manually add custom monophonic ringtones, back when you had to know the notes. Now I have an iPhone whose wallpapers and main ringtone change every other week.

My favorite wallpapers are normally anime-style digital art with just a bit of fashion sprinkled in - like the ones below. The one on the right is my current one. The easiest way to get the wallpapers onto your phone is to open this blog on your phone's browser.

Two other ways I've found to download the pictures onto the iPhone are:
(1) Right-click to Copy the Image Location, i.e. the wallpaper's URL and then paste it into an email. Send the URL to your phone via text. I know for the AT&T iPhone, it's your phone number @txt.att.net - 1234567890@txt.att.net

[OOTD] Instagram Moves From Your Phone to Your Computer

I finally took a picture wearing the shirt I ordered from Dealzone, a plus-size-friendly Ebay store I mentioned in a past Top 10 Tuesday. Loving this shirt beacause of the ease in fit and I really wanted strips that weren't black and white. The earrings are Betsey Johnson birthday gifts.

I found Instagram filters as actions for Photoshop. It's not all of them but it's a good start. You can download them via Dbox's Tumblr and install them in your Photoshop folder under Presets -> Photoshop Actions. I know not everyone's an Instagram geek but I love how it adds a little something to camera pictures. The filter-action I used for this post was Brennan.

Speaking of Instagram, there is now a third-party app that brings the phone app to your computer: Followgram. Followgram fills the void of things we've been missing on Instagram like a follow button, vanity URL and a personal photo gallery. Click the follow button to see my profile and get your own.

GET THE LOOK: Computer Engineer Barbie

Mattel,Geek Barbie,Style Geek,Geek Out,Geeky Style,Computer Tech,Techno Barbie,Barbie DollI bitched and moaned about Barbie's new "I Can Be" Computer Engineer Look yesterday but realized that I never presented a solution. Below are my own takes on Barbie's look. I didn't skimp on the pink because it's Barbie's signature color. The looks also keep the pink glasses because that's so Barbie...

This first look centers around pink binary leggings and comfortable sneakers, which I liked from the original outfit. Throw a trendy sweater over a black tunic-dress and I don't see any reason a computer engineer wouldn't wear this. And a laptop bag - pink yes! - but I am sooo surprised that she didn't have a laptop bag!

Barbie New Career Look 1

This one looks a little bit more grown up to me and takes more from the original look. The boyfriend blazer, though, would have the binary code on the folded sleeves - another little detail I liked from the original look. The flats are also a great alternative to the sneakers.

I'm Computer Tech Barbie!

Mattel,Geek Barbie,Style Geek,Geek Out,Geeky Style,Computer Tech,Techno Barbie,Barbie Doll There is no way I can call myself the Style Geek without covering this little bit of news. I would like to think I was a well-oriented child - I loved my microscope as much as my Barbie collection. But Barbie won over as I grew older, slowly feeding my love of clothes and style. Until recently, I wasn't sure I even wanted to go back to college because I wasn't sure I could stick to any (acceptable) profession. After a year of soul searching and starting this blog, I decided on website design and computer programming. Code scared me at first but now there's something comforting about it, like Burberry on a rainy day.

So this is where it gets funny. Barbie's resume could put all of us to shame - police officer, pilot, doctor, teacher, President in 2000 - over 120 careers in the past 5i years. This year Mattel decided to add her 125th profession to the long list of careers, but there was a twist: Barbie fans could vote for the next Barbie Career. The winning profession was announced at last Friday's New York Toy Fair: Computer Engineer! This gave me a warm fuzzy feeling of accomplishment as a geeky girl with a love of fashion. And then I went to the website to see her... Mattel,Geek Barbie,Style Geek,Geek Out,Geeky Style,Computer Tech,Techno Barbie,Barbie Doll

Something about Computer Engineer Barbie just doesn't communicate Computer Engineer. I am by no means saying computer engineers are not stylish - they make enough money to afford big fashion brands; I met one with Carrie Bradshaw's show fetish and the pocket to fund it. But this Barbie seems more like the hot girl at the Technogeek Convention that is there to make the new merchandise look good. She's cute, she's perky, she's well-polished and knowledgeable but she didn't build the damn touchscreen netbook with camera and Flash capabilities unlike the iTampon. She will, however, giggle fakely and roll her eyes when you make that joke.

But that's lumping all cute, techie girls into one vacuous stereotype. And I'd like to be included in those. Apparently, they did work with the Society of Women Engineers on her clothing and accessories, but I wonder if "a binary shirt under a casual jacket" was misinterpreted somewhere.

Another thing that peeved me was how there were TWO winning careers. The masses convened and the Popular Vote was Computer Engineer. That should have been it, right? But it seems that this job wasn't girly enough or pink enough or Barbie enough for Barbie and there was a second vote being taken. News Anchor Barbie is dressed in head-to-toe pink with a few black accents that remind me of a Chanel suit on bubblegum crack. Her shoes are to die for, though, and in the world of Barbie, that's what matters.

The question stands, can you be a geek and be fashionable? Can you look smart and stylish at the same time? Mattel tried. I want to believe that they had the best intentions in mind because the campaign was called "I Can Be" and will be influencing a new generation of girls worldwide. I know what it's like to be a geek in the fashion world - your outfit is never up to par. I know what it's like to be cute and fashionable in the geek world - you lose respect and IQ points for every ruffle and bow. When I found out Barbie was gonna be a Computer Engineer, it gave me hope that the two worlds could mesh and Barbie would be the torch-bearer... but it seems I'll have to take my torch somewhere else.

[WISHLIST WEDNESDAY] Cute Things You Don't Need (Like More Zippers)

Let me start by adding to the zipper trend. This is a zipper phone strap because once you have zippers on your jackets, your shoes, your bags, your skirts, your leggings, and your dresses, you NEED one on your phone. I'm wanting the rainbow one.

I will keep you in my heart - but only if you're under 2 gigs. Heart-shaped USB drive that looks cute and can carry quite a bit. My only reservation is that anything less than 4 gigs just doesn't feel functional.

The Art of Vending Machines

I was on Denim Maniac this morning and came across this picture of a vending machine for jeans. OMG, I thought, what's next? Because we've all seen the Ipod vending machines.

http://blog.shrutibhandari.com/

When the Ipod machines were introduced here in Dallas, my friends were all like "so cool" and "how novel" but I had known about these more-than-snacking vending machines for-like-ever because Japan did it first. Just like they have done for-like-ever. I still don't understand why anyone would pay for used panties, though.

Used Panty Vending Machine
Japan has been doing clothing vending for a while. It's nothing new. I would like to see it here in the U.S. though. Spilt coffee on your tie before that big meeting?

Other than fashion, I think these are some we could really use:

Recycling Vending Machine

I Honestly Believe We NEED Automatic Recycling Machines that Give Out Quarters

Do you think so much convinience, however, is good for a society? Do we need more types of vending machines here in the States? I still wanna see a jewelry vending machine or one for designer purses - just swipe your credit card. ^__^
