The Thick n' Sassy Show Gave Much Needed Variety

As a local plus-size girl, I was really looking forward to the Thick n' Sassy Fashion Show. It had been promoted on Facebook for almost 4 months, and was being hosted by an online magazine that catered exclusively to full figured women.



This was the first fashion show put on in Dallas by Tabu Online Magazine and, despite preparations, it got off to a rocky start. The show

was meant to highlight local designers and boutiques that carried plus-size designer, but the dim, bar lighting made that really hard. Gladly, the MC Thelma Mitchell was lively enough

to brighten up the room.


The first set was by the Hip Chic Boutique in Denton. It was all plus-size clothes I'd seen before, same shape (or lack thereof) and some weren't even that flattering. There were a few

brown shirts at the end with nice drape but I was unable to catch a good picture.


The Simply Original collection knew not only how dress a woman but give a show. I liked their clothing the best. They started with the Mocha Chocolate line for ladies size 11+. The six

models enthusiastically showed us that they could "move it, move it" with the best of 'em. The variety of shape and color was very refreshing.



Ashley Stewart, the plus-size chain retailer, was one of the sponsors. If what they showed was part of their Fall collection, then I'm not impressed. Plus-size retailers always seem to play it

safe when it comes to maneuvering curves.


Tabitha Murphy, the CEO and Editor of Tabu, says that a second show is already in the works. Though the first didn't run as smoothly, she's

hoping to have more designers and more coverage at the next show.
