STYLE IS...

Being the only orange car in a parking lot of grey, black and burgundy.

street fashion dallas lesbian lez style style geek

Style is when your rims match your paint job.

But seriously, these guys need to pay more attention to their appearance. If I see another guy walking around with his pants below his butt, I'm gonna pull them down! It's tacky. The only time I want to see a butt is during intimacy or at a strip club. If they wanna do it right, they should put on male thongs and have them peeking out of the top of the pants. Please spend less time styling your car and more time styling your person.

[STREET SNAP] Sundays Are For Shopping in Stylish Plaids

Dallas Street Fashion, Plaid Trend

She was coming out of a discount clothing store I frequent with, I guess, her mother. Her heels are sexy, no doubt about it. All black always looks good but you gotta love that pop of yellow in her bracelets and shirt.

My Sunday was lazy... Yours?

Style Files

My fashion writing teacher assigned us a Fall's Top 10 Report for the Dallas area. This was her cutest example. They were given out about two years ago.

I was just geeking out at the creative cuteness of the small "style file" - about 4" across, purse-size as it was meant to be. We have to come up with something just as creative. Of course, I'll post. My list is already including leopard print, thick chunky bracelets and a long white shirt.

Does anybody else like to collect little things in print like my teacher. Just cute hand-outs or add-ons that catch your eye? I have a scrapbook. I think they're important to collect because as we hit the digital age, there's good chance these kind of lookbooks will not be available on paper.

[PROJECT RUNWAY] Christopher is Easy to Wear

Christopher was the first winner on this season's Project Runway, dazzling us with a VMA dress fit for a rock-glam royalty. Even though he didn't win the second time around, you can tell he'll be a force to be reckoned with.

Personally, I am in love with his sketches. They are young and cute, not your traditional fashion figures. They remind me of modern cartoons - like this stylish sketch below looks like Kim Possible.

Lifetime network has his portfolio online. Check it out by clicking the pics. I think Michael Kors captured his style in the very first episode - "cute and edgy." Overall, very wearable and very marketable.

I can see him doing well in the youth market, maybe high-end juniors. It's that fresh look that I'm sure will get him far in the competition. But will he make it to Bryant Park? He has my vote.

[STREET STYLE] Back 2 School Bags

Diana with Charlotte Russe

OMG! It's the first week back to school. I seriously love that my school is in the middle of Downtown Dallas. The hustle-and-bustle is a great place to get street style pictures but I need to get up earlier. I spent part of Tuesday hunting down a purple maxi dress with a glam-rock belt but to no avail. However, I did catch these ladies with their fun, colorful bags.

[SKETCHBOOK] What's Your Sin (part 2)

The second installment of my Deadly Sins Series: Apathy & Pride. If you don't know what apathy is, your probably don't need this shirt... Actually, it means not caring, kinda being emo and cynical at the same time. So far I have ideas for 6 Sins but the 7th eludes me... Who wants to be called a "glutton"?

Ludacris' 4 Tips to Keeping Your [Lifestyle] Brand Relevant

When I go out marketing, I always keep an eye out for the Dallas periodicals. I like to see the city's diversity and our number of publications sure reflect that. I came across Rolling Out which I'd never seen before. I wanted to shared their little article that I do believe is very relevant to fashionista entrepreneurs. After all, Ludacris does have his own brand out right now and it's doing pretty well.

LUDACRIS' 4 TIPS FOR KEEPING YOUR BRAND RELEVANT

1. Treat people how you want to be treated.

2. Offer something new.
"As far as having a brand out there, what are you giving to people that they don’t already have? What are you going to do that’s going to attract them to this product?"

3. Find your target demographic.
“You always have to market yourself and promote and do things where you’re reaching out to your target audience. Make them feel appreciated.”

4. Give Back.
"It’s all about charity. You always have to give back... I think that’s extremely important because it has to do with karma. Whatever you put out there, you’ll get back."

EDIT 2012: Rolling Out website is dead and I haven't seen the publication around any more.

[SKETCHBOOK] What's Your Sin? (part 1)

Maybe it's been done - the Seven Deadly Sins - but this is my take. So far I have ideas for six unisex tanks where the lettering is all different.

[GEEKING OUT] Feed My EVIL TWIN

EVIL TWIN /noun/ (idiom)
A physical copy of one's self whom has altered morality.

EVIL TWIN, Dark Fashion, Goth Style EVIL TWIN, Dark Fashion, Goth Style

I found this label on withasianstereotypes yesterday and fell completely in love. I've been looking for something like this: the attitude, the style, the sheer force behind it - so goth, punk, street. It just had to be fashion's EVIL TWIN. These are my picks from the 2009 Transeason Lookbook. You can follow them straight to the label's website.

EVIL TWIN is the creation of Australian designer Jodie Mckenzie. This is what she had to say about her label:

"Jodie (aka Jodes) Mckenzie...has always been a fan of the darker, dressier take on street style... Surely she wasn't the only girl out there who wanted cool and edgy... who's not afraid of fashion that gets attention? Fashion with a hard 'don't-f*ck-with-me" edge? ... EVIL TWIN is all about left-of-centre everyday wear with a dash of avant garde... wardrobe staples that make a statement..."

Sadly, I can't seem to find it anywhere to buy. And I really want at least one piece, like the fringe dress or the skeleton hand with attitude. (^__^) She stated on her blog, however, that online retailer Pixie Market may pick it up, making it available to everyone. Yay! I just hope it's soon enough for these pieces.

INTERVIEW: Friday Night Trunk Show

I went to the Style Stay-Cation Trunk Show this past Friday evening. It was a little slow. They were expecting a better turn out for Saturday. But I spent Saturday working and registering for school so needless to say - I went nowhere. (-_-)

At the trunk show, however, my gf and I got free makeovers from make-up and hair artst LaDonna Hearne. She recently went into business for herself after working with M.A.C. for three years. I talked to her about her art as she worked on my girlfriend.

To start off, how hard was it to break into the business?
It wasn't really hard to break into it. I've been networking for the past 12 years. I built myself up gradually. I started at 18 with a modeling agency in Amarillo and then worked for MAC for 3 years - best training because you get to work on all skin types, all skin tones. I got to do make-up on 80-year old ladies who didn't speak English.

So do you have any tips for networking?
Utilize online sites like Myspace and Facebook. Work for free if you have to. I got paying gigs from working for free. The biggest thing is know what you're doing so you can have the confidence.

Do you have a favorite photoshoot?
I love working with Brutal Brothers and Jill Rasco but [with photoshoots,] you're always thinking about the next one.

Was there ever a photoshoot or gig where you realized that "Yeah, this it, this is what I'm suppose to be doing?
Every single one.

Wow. You're really passionate. What do like most about doing make-up?
Love the creative process. It's fun to make people feel good about themselves. It's a blast.

My mom always said no woman should leave the house without at least eyeliner and lipstick. What are your necessary two?
Mascara, for sure, because you can easily look pretty. And fill in your brows.

Do you have any make-up tips?

Exhibit A: My Eyes
To bring out eye color, use complementary colors on the color wheel (and she carries one), like blue eyeshadow with brown eyes. For blue eyes, use orange and peaches - plum is a good color too. For green eyes, plum and coppertones.

So have you ever done a drag queen's make-up?
Yes, it's very over the top.

She also recommended L'Oreal's High Intensity Pigments as a substitution for M.A.C. if you don't wanna break the bank. If you want to check out her work, she has both a Myspace (myspace.com/dropdeadmuah) and a Model Mayhem (#1039573). Here are some good examples of her work:

Who can say no?? They specialize in stripper-wear as you can tell from the website but their shoe selection is always trendy. Then take 50% off - OMG! I might go back for more! I saw two girls there that had more than a dozen pairs between the both of them.

The sale ends next Wednesday, August 26th. It's going on at all three locations: Arlington, Northwest Highway in Dallas, and Greenville in Dallas. The only brands excluded are Bordello and Funtasma - they're 25% off and the coolest shoes.

So if anyone is in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, go shop!
I command you! (^__^) lol

Readers can submit a picture of their favorite jeans and the winner gets 5 pairs of jeans. Not bad. If they run it again, I'm entering for sure! Who doesn't need an extra pair of jeans?

The following lovely ladies have my vote for awesome jeans. You can click on the pictures to go to the main gallery. It's actually inspiring to see what direction people are going with their jeans. I call it DESTRUCTION but fashion is as fashion does.

Forever Fashion Circus

So I'm currently geeking out over a Circus themed lookbook Forever 21 did for their Twist line. It's very playful and cute - I think it captures the spirit of the circus very well.

Very affordable as Forever 21 always is, which is wonderful for low-budget fashionistas such as myself. The tiered skirt in the first pic above is only $19.80 and the vest dress in the first picture below is $24.80.

I'm a big fan of the whole Dark Circus so these are my picks for this lookbook. I love the lace print on the yellow shirt. BTW how would I look in yellow? (0.o)?
